Job Description
- Design, develop, support, and drive projects and programs to conserve biodiversity on-farm (pollination, soil biodiversity, wildlife-friendly practices) and off-farm (community and landscape-focused ecosystem protection and restoration) in partnership with the BU lead and other CR&S members
- Work with other CR&S members and BU teams to develop a grievance reporting with respect to biodiversity monitoring; and MRV (monitoring, reporting verification) process to assess compliance with deforestation and Olam Living Landscapes policy.
- Test and guide Olam’s approach to biodiversity evaluation, measurement, management, and monitoring, working closely with other team members within the central CR&S team, mainly collaborating with the Carbon project delivery manager.
- Act as a subject matter expert on biodiversity, forests, and ecosystem change policy, mentoring and building internal capacity.
- Evaluate and advise BUs on sustainability projects' design and technical implementation to maximize conservation and biodiversity benefits. Work with the Carbon project development Team to incorporate biodiversity/Ecosystem services into Natural Capital evaluation and the possibility of Biodiversity credits.
- Develop and drive through practical innovations and approaches to maximize biodiversity impact and valuation with partners and service providers.
Requirements
- A personal passion for re-imagining agriculture and food systems.
- 5+ years of practical experience in developing and managing relevant projects, e.g., biodiversity, ecosystems, agroforestry, forest and soil conservation, and sustainable crop production.
- Experience preferred in tropical and subtropical multi-use and agricultural landscapes, including work with REDD+ and reforestation projects with a sound appreciation of the human dimensions of conservation/restoration.
- The candidate will provide support in terms of data collection, collation, analysis & presentation.
- Relevant professional skills and a technical qualification in a relevant field of biodiversity assessment, species and ecosystem conservation, ecology, forest and habitat management, and restoration.
- Candidate’s technical skills may relate to working with conservation priority frameworks, high conservation value and high carbon stock assessment, GIS and spatial analysis, experimental design and hypothesis testing, environmental statistics and R-modelling
- Experience with ESIAs and familiarity with sustainability certification processes such as FSC, CCB, VCS, etc
- Self-reliance, motivation, and willingness to travel and work in remote locations and sometimes challenging circumstances.
- French or other languages are an asset
- Understanding of Data Science, including tools and algorithms (e.g., Python, Java, MatLab), desirable
