Unit overview

The global climate crisis requires us to reduce global GHG to net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris 1.5 agreement; to do so whilst feeding 10 Billion people sustainably and ensuring inclusive growth, is the greatest challenge of our lifetime.  As part of the Sustainability Analytics Unit, you will identify, analyse, and visualise sustainability risks, activities, and impacts, through monitoring tools and methodologies, research support, data analysis and knowledge management, generating insights that drive positive action


The core roles of the unit are: (1) Data collection, sharing and visualization (2) Benchmarking and alignment of metrics and data collected and (3) Sustainability policy and standards updates, deployment, monitoring and follow-up.  The Sustainability Analytics Unit ensures that we collect and monitor the right data to identify risks, monitor activities, and measure impact. The team ensures that we have the right systems and tools to collect, share and visualize data -- generating insights that enable sustainability and business teams to identify risk hotspots, measure progress and communicate value. The team benchmarks and aligns metrics with global standards and best practices, as well as relevant departments such as AtSource and Internal Audit.  They ensure that sustainability policies and checklists are up-to-date, and that non-compliances are flagged and followed-up. The team supports Social & Natural Capital colleagues to design and analyze surveys and conduct research as required. 

Key Deliverables

The Digital Projects Officer drives digital product improvements and advancements (including integrations between different reporting and data collection systems) and ensures premium level maintenance of the existing solutions.  The DPO acts as the interface and single point of contact between the global sustainability team and IT / Digital teams.


Digital project development and advancement

  • Turns stakeholder and user insights into actionable product outcomes.

  • Works in an Agile environment and continuously reviews the business needs, refines priorities, outlines milestones and deliverables, and identifies opportunities and risks.

  • Partners with stakeholders and users across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization.

  • Liaise with other internal (as needed external) IT platform to ensure interoperability (with AtSource, OFIS, OD, F4S tools, etc…)

  • Develops, owns, and executes a roadmap of continuous product improvement.

  • Supervise and advise the scrum team / web development team to meet software expectations. 

  • Nurture ideas and solutions to existing user problems

  • Communicate effectively with team members to achieve project goals – incl technical team

  • Work closely with the scrum team / web development throughout the development process

  • Schedule and lead meetings to identify issues and fixes for projects

  • Follow up technical development making sure project is advancing as per specs, timing and budget.

Operational Effectiveness

Maintenance of existing solutions:

  • Ensure platforms (such as data management, risk mapping and resource catalogues) are up and running at all time

  • Report bugs to Olam IT support team, and make sure bugs are fixed quickly and properly

  • Manage access rights to that at all time the right person have the right level of access.

  • Extract and retrieve information and data sets

  • Ensure old data are discarded or updated in due time.

  • Support with editing and uploading text, photos and documents on platforms


  • 2+ years’ experience in a BA or product owner role or similar; preferably involving sustainability platforms

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred but not essential

  • Interest in clean technology/agri-food systems,, data-driven sustainability, metric development etc

  • Good understanding of IT development and agile methodologies

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Managed Services, Server Configuration etc.

  • Highly organized and able to organize, prioritise, meet deliverables and drive work to completion within timelines

  • Strong system analysis and design skills and demonstrated ability in rolling out solution development tools within an organization

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with stakeholders located in various countries

  • Strong communication skills and fluent in English and ideally Tamil.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution skills, excellent work ethics with a strong penchant for working in a challenging environment.
