Spatial Analyst






Sustainability Analytics Lead



The Spatial Analyst is a member of the Sustainability Analytics Unit.  The core roles of the unit are: (1) Data collection, sharing and visualization (2) Benchmarking and alignment of metrics and data collected and (3) Policy and audit framework updates, monitoring and follow-up.


The Sustainability Analytics Unit ensures that we collect and monitor the right data to identify risks, monitor activities, and measure impact. The team ensures that we have the right systems and tools to collect, share and visualize data -- generating insights that enable sustainability and business teams to identify risk hotspots, measure progress and communicate value. The team benchmarks and aligns metrics with global standards and best practices, as well as relevant departments such as AtSource and Internal Audit.  They ensure that sustainability policies and checklists are up-to-date, and that non-compliances are flagged and followed-up. The team supports Social & Natural Capital colleagues to design and analyze surveys and conduct research as required. 


Key Deliverables

The global climate crisis requires us to reduce global GHG to net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris 1.5 agreement; to do so whilst feeding 10 Billion people sustainably and ensuring inclusive growth, is the greatest challenge of our lifetime.  As part of the Sustainability Analytics Unit, you will positively contribute to initiatives for regenerative agriulture, ecosystem conservation, environmental footprinting, and better livelihoods for farmers. You will support and collaborate with key stakeholders including Olam’s Businesses and Functions, but also third party service providers and managers of shared or commercial spatial tools and sustainability databases. Leveraging these partnerships will, in turn, enable you to deliver consistent, accurate and timely maps, environmental analyses and sustainability footprints to drive positive action.


The responsibilities of the Spatial Analyst include

  • Sourcing, consolidating and analysing input data for spatial modelling from multiple sources and systems

  • Sourcing, extracting and analysing spatial data for sustainability using GIS tools.

  • Producing or guiding the production of multi-layered maps and tools for spatial decision making.

  • Working with Olam business units and the wider internal sustainability network to ensure the integrity of a variety of primary data collection and analysis

  • Working closely with the sustainability team to develop the models and methods and outputs as required by the internal customers such as businesses and sustainable accounting functions.

  • Identifying inconsistencies with data and resolve issues, capturing issues for learning pur-poses

  • Identifying opportunities to automate data collection and management

  • Generating insight from large amounts of data



  • A personal passion for sustainable agriculture and food systems

  • Experience of gathering and manipulating environmental data as part of a team

  • Expertise in using GIS tools, analysing and generating maps, models and visual tools. includ-ing use of remote sensing data, use of a variety of spatial data layers and models, experience of shared platforms such as Global Forest Watch, and land use change analysis.

  • Advanced excel skills – pivot table, macros, etc

  • Strong analytical capabilities

  • Knowledge of agricultural systems for company's target crops

  • University degree in GIS systems, environmental anaytics or other relevant domains, or proven equivalent experience

  • 3-6+ years of relevant experience

  • French, Tamil, or other languages are an asset
