Job Description
The role is to ensure Olam Agri Rubber SHS (Safety Health and Sustainability) system is in place and fully embedded across the organization in compliance with current SHS legislation, approved Olam Agri codes of practice and company policies and procedures. Focusing on adherence to service excellence and continuous improvement, the candidate will work proactively with managers to support, establish and maintain safe systems of work and a safe environment for colleagues, customers and contractors. The role will be to ensure that there is a provision of competent safety advice to all managers and front-line staff across safety matters on both an emergency and routine basis.
Key Deliverables
- Develop and lead the operation and promotion of an SHS system, encompassing a pro-active environmental, health and safety culture across the organization. Utilizing Olam Agri’s policies, procedures, tools and code of practice including risk assessment, accident prevention, health initiatives and acknowledged personal responsibility and accountability.
- Facilitate the maintenance and management of sustainability, health, safety and well-being through systems, audit/ inspection and the establishment of high standards and expectations on employees on safety awareness behaviors / performance.
- To maintain an SHS System audit program for Health & Safety and environmental standards and to ensure that all units are audited on a regular basis.
- To report on the performance of the SHS system at Management review meetings, and use this as a forum for any improvements. Hold SHS meetings
- Advise on matters relating to the Sustainability, Health and Safety at work including the obligations and responsibilities of managers and employees; and provide comprehensive and practical advice to managers on best practice.
Strategic Effectiveness
- Design a robust audit system comprising of policy/management/system/infrastructure/process/practice regarding EHS.
- Give inputs to project teams during greenfield/brownfield projects to build in EHS compliance during design stage itself
- Audit project sites for compliance of EHS guidelines and work with project teams to enable compliance
- Coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure compliance to all governing laws
Operational Effectiveness
- Bring out new / unknown risks in new and existing facilities for management to act
- Ensure all Olam facilities are compliant to local/international regulatory norms
- Document areas of improvement, push the envelope when it comes to environmental safety and safe workplace practices
- Identify opportunities to eliminate not just reduce workplace hazards.
Organizational Effectiveness
- Undertake and document audits based on the published audit criterion. Work independently for the audits or constitute cross-functional audit teams to conduct effective audits.
- Follow up on action plans on identified gaps as brought out during audits
- Coach and train plant EHS personnel to develop them as EHS leaders in their plants
- Undertake training of plant personnel to ensure safety requirements and the right knowledge is transferred to the lowest level in the plant operations.
Requirements
- Total of 10-15 years of industry experience responsibility for a SHS system management
- At least five years of experience in leading the EHS function of a large corporation in national/regional role
- Ability to network, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and people skills.
- Ability to persevere and stay focused in the face of priority conflict with a peer group
- Ability to prioritize, work to tight deadlines, both prescribed and self – imposed.
- Leverage key stakeholders to move the EHS agenda forward.
- Fluent in English.
