Job Description

The world is facing a global climate crisis and a global biodiversity crisis, to which unsustainable agriculture and associated habitat loss and soil degradation are huge contributors. Feeding 10 billion people sustainably by 2050, within the planetary boundaries, is the greatest challenge of our lifetime. With some 2.5 million farmers and 10 million hectares in our supply chains, and our on-the-ground ground presence -- through outgrower programmes, our farms and processing units, and our supply and distribution networks OGA businesses can make a tangible, positive impact for people, nature and the climate.  Through this crucial role in global Sustainability function, you will be shaping and leading the Climate & Natural Capital Unit to transform the way we protect and regenerate our natural resource base and mitigate and adapt to climate change helping to re-imagine global agriculture and food systems.

Key Deliverables

The responsibilities of the Head of Climate & Natural Capital include

  • Guiding and developing Olam’s environmental strategy, action and engagement with stakeholders to deliver our Purpose and the ambition of Regenerating the Living World.
  • Driving improvements, efficiencies and positive change in Olam’s performance on environmental Material Areas – Climate, Water, Soils, Ecosystems and Waste – supporting multi-capital value creation.
  • Leading, supporting and inspiring team members and relevant colleagues across the company to implement projects, metrics, process, and tools that transform environmental performance and impact, both on-farms and in the wider landscape.
  • Mentoring sustainability leaders and partners within Olam businesses and functions
  • Guiding Olam’s response to emerging risks in climate, biodiversity and water, and set and track progress against environmental performance indicators, in partnership with BUs/Operating Groups and Functions.
  • Owning the environmental aspects of reporting to major ESG frameworks including CDP, TCFD, GRI and third-party benchmarks of Olam’s businesses.
  • Acting as the Olam spokesperson and anchor for key partnerships and relationships with third parties on environmental progress.

Requirements

  • A personal passion for sustainable agriculture and food systems
  • 10-15+ years in relevant roles including significant experience working within large organisations, with demonstrable experience in driving adoption of positive environmental impacts in relevant projects and programmes.
  • Outstanding programme management and organizational skills, including a high level of team management and goal-setting, team skills development, workflow and budget management, and a focus on delivery.
  • Recognised leadership and an excellent network in relevant spheres of professional life, showing a strong understanding of the business environment and sectoral collaborations in which Olam operates, including key business, finance and CSO stakeholders in the Agri sector and the frameworks of fundraising, finance, reporting, innovation etc. Degree level qualifications/ equivalent technical
