Job Description

As a member of the Olam Agri legal counsel team, your responsibilities will include managing various global projects across 30+ countries. These projects involve collaborating with other members of the global legal center of expertise (CoE) to build effective partnerships. The ideal candidate for this position should have broad exposure to diverse areas of law including M&A, the management of disputes, together with commercial contracts, data protection, sustainability/ESG/human rights/climate law, intellectual property, food law, finance and agri-business matters. An appetite to work across jurisdictions and cultures is a requirement as well as an ability to manage a diverse spectrum of stakeholders both internal as well as external counsel. This position will require an individual who is able to consistently exercise sound judgement related to allocation of risk while also having the ability to suggest legal/business-focused alternatives.

Key Deliverables

  • Handle, prepare and review documents related to agri-business trading, corporate law matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with partners and clients, ensuring all legal obligations are met and risks are mitigated. Understanding and focus on commodities trading, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, trademarks, and international legal matters.
  • Provide legal guidance and support to internal teams and businesses on matters related to international business expansion, compliance, including sanctions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage disputes effectively, overseeing external counsel, defining fee scopes and budgets, and ensuring resolution aligns with company objectives.
  • Conduct legal research, stay updated with industry regulations and best practices, and provide recommendations to the management team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience in a common law jurisdiction firm, or top tier advisory or a corporate firm and/or in-house. In their role they will have had a  focus on contracts, mergers and acquisitions, shipping law issues, and trademarks, along with international legal matters.
  • The successful candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced global organization and confident in their regular interactions with the business and making decisions that require intellectual nimbleness, pragmatism and commercial acumen.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a global matrix-structured organization across multiple business units.
  • An understanding of how, and the willingness to go the extra mile, to bring added business value.
